7 days exploring the best of Northern Vietnam — city energy in Hanoi, limestone karsts and farm life in Ninh Binh, and two nights on a luxury cruise through Halong Bay.
Join me for 7 days exploring some of the best of Northern Vietnam. We'll start in Hanoi, where we'll wander through bustling streets, discover hidden gems, and experience the energy that makes this city so unforgettable.
From there, we'll slow things down in Ninh Binh, often called the "Halong Bay on land." We'll drift through towering limestone mountains on a traditional sampan boat, then spend time on a local family farm learning about everyday life in the Vietnamese countryside. It's one of those experiences that reminds you travel is about more than just seeing a place — it's about connecting with it.
We'll wrap up the trip with a 2-day, 1-night luxury cruise through the breathtaking waters of Halong Bay, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Think emerald water, dramatic limestone islands, incredible food, kayaking, sunsets on the deck, and waking up surrounded by one of the most beautiful landscapes in the world.
This trip is the perfect mix of city life, culture, nature, and unforgettable experiences. 🌿🇻🇳

Tips for guides
Fly into Hanoi (HAN). We'll meet in the lobby in the evening to head to our welcome dinner — a set Vietnamese menu at a local restaurant. Time to get to know the group and toast to the week ahead.
A full day exploring Hanoi like a local: morning coffee culture (including the famous egg coffee), banh mi from a street stall, Ngoc Son Temple at Hoan Kiem Lake, the Old Quarter, a Pho Cuon lesson at West Lake, sunset at Long Bien Bridge, and a draught beer at a bia hoi spot before the evening is yours.
Transfer to Ninh Binh for a full day of exploring: the ancient capital of Hoa Lu, a 45-minute bike ride through local villages past Thai Vi Temple, a sampan boat tour through the caves of UNESCO-listed Trang An, and a climb of nearly 500 steps up Mua Cave for panoramic views from Lying Dragon Mountain.
A morning on a local family farm in the Van Long Nature Reserve — fishing, rice harvesting, and a communal lunch at their home. In the afternoon, a sampan boat ride through Bong Cave, Kem Trong, and the flooded landscape of Van Long.
Board the 2-day, 1-night Halong Bay Heritage Cruise. Sail through Lan Ha Bay and the Cat Ba Archipelago, kayak or swim at a secluded beach, take a Vietnamese cooking class as the sun sets, and try your hand at squid fishing under the stars.
An optional sunrise session on the sundeck, then a bamboo boat tour through the Dark and Bright Cave. Brunch onboard as the cruise heads back to the marina, then a transfer back to Hanoi for a farewell dinner with the group.
One last breakfast before heading out. We recommend departing from Hanoi International/Noi Bai Airport (HAN).

Y'all always tell me, "Don't forget to tell me about the next trip." Well… this is how I do it. My travel community gets the drop first. New trips, the best pricing, and first dibs before I tell the rest of the internet. Don't be the one in my DMs talking about, "I missed it."
